“With its first issue, Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts establishes itself at the rich intersection of race and ethnicity studies. In our new world, where boundaries seem to grow more fluid by the day, this journal will be at the forefront of our crucial, global conversation about who we are and where we are going. Race/Ethnicity is scholarship at its best.”
-- Henry Louis Gates, Jr. W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of the Humanities, Harvard University

"Race/Ethnicity provides an innovative approach to exploring the complexities of race and ethnicity, crucial to challenging the rules of monoracial and single-discipline scholarship and promoting a racially just vision for the world."
-- Rinku Sen, Executive Director, Applied Research Center

Welcome to the web site for Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts. Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts is a peer-reviewed journal jointly produced through The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University.  The mission of the journal is to present key insights about the often-complex operations of race and ethnicity throughout the world with particular attention to dynamics shaping the experiences of racially marginalized people and communities.  As our title suggests, it is our hope that each issue of the journal crosses boundaries of discipline, geography, and theory and practice:

Multidisciplinary
Race/Ethnicity offers a wide range of robust analyses and grounded reflections from across scholarly disciplines and diverse fields of practice.

Global
Race/Ethnicity seeks to deepen and expand conversations on race and ethnicity by inviting research, insights, and accounts of experiences from around the world..

Multi-Contextual
Race/Ethnicity acknowledges and embraces multiple ways of knowing by embracing perspectives produced within practitioner, activist, academic, creative, and other contexts.

We invite both academics and practitioners to add their insights and observations to our rich and expanding conversation.  Some people will meet our invitation to practitioners – by which we mean advocates, grassroots activists, policymakers, teachers, business people, community members, creative writers and others – with skepticism. Please be assured, however, that the invitation is a sincere one. In our view, a dialogue about race and ethnicity in the contemporary world that does not attract the voices of practitioners – and speak to their concerns – is necessarily impoverished.
